What is Açai exactly?
Açai is a dark purple fruit that has been eaten by the people in Brazil for centuries. It is said that the açai fruit has a high concentration of antioxidants, so it has caught the attention of people around the world.
Why do we need antioxidants?
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which can lead to poor health. Free radicals are produced by environmental toxins, high stress, smoking, exposure to x-rays, etc.
Too many free radicals in the body can lead to serious problems such as heart disease, stroke, and premature aging.
Fruits and vegetables in general will typically contain antioxidants, which is one reason that being sure to eat them every day is important.
Açai happens to contain vitamins A, C, and E, as well as anthocyanin, which is a powerful antioxidant also found in blueberries and red wine.
Just like blueberries and the occasional cup of red wine, açai is a totally worth addition to your diet. Especially in this modern day where there are plenty of chemicals and toxins we are exposed to.
It can be expensive, but there are multiple ways you can consume it — you can add some of the juice to smoothies at home, just drink the juice itself, eat açai bowls, or just eat the fruit by itself.
Sometimes in the grocery stores you might see ready-to-blend smoothie packets in the freezers that have açai and not a ton of sugar. Keep an eye out for them!
